About Me

Hi, I Am Michelle Umeadi

I got my first degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Upon graduating, I served my country in Warri, Delta State where I was posted to NNPC Clinic for my service year (NYSC). I proceeded after conclusion of my NYSC service to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for my one year internship. After which, I sat for my Test of Professional Competency (TOPC), passed and got my license to practice as a registered Dietitian.

I then went on to work with the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), this time for 5 years during which I obtained my certificate in Diabetes Care from the University of Warwick, UK. However, after five years of “working for the man” I decided it was time for me to embark on to the next chapter of my career. I resigned from JUTH on the grounds of marriage (a decision that was difficult, yes, but I have no regrets till this day). I now practice as a Dietitian in partnership with hospitals, academic institutions, pharmaceuticals and individuals providing them with appropriate nutritional services

Part One

I took this path 15 years ago as an ‘overweight’ 300 level student of Nutrition and Dietetics. Determined to be a practicing dietitian, I needed to first prove to myself that diet therapy works. My first step, in fact, was applying my knowledge of Diet Therapy 322 to calculating my diet and incorporating a daily jogging routine of about 45 minutes.

Three months later, I lost 12kg, dropping weight from 74kg to 62kg. At the time, some old friends did not recognize me. My first conviction that diet therapy works came from this experience; and afterwards, I began to teach students how to lose weight by eating healthy and exercising rightly. I maintained this routine from 2005 until 2010 when I got married.

Part Two

I maintained a healthy weight, flexing my curves until I had my first pregnancy, gaining an aggregate of 25kg in this period and during lactation. However, following my calculated diet plus 45-60 minutes of daily exercise, I lost 25kg in a matter of months.

Subsequent pregnancies in 2013 and 2015 again had me putting on so much weight. This went on till my fourth pregnancy, and with my current weight pegged at 95kg (at the time of this writing), I am about to
go on a journey to lose weight. Would you like to join me?
